The State University of New York at Stony Brook is situated on a 1,100 acre site on the rural north shore of Long Island in southeastern NY. Many faculty and some students live in the NYC area and commute. All curricula are designed to take advantage of the full range of museums, galleries and libraries of the New York City. Some museums are free with a SUNY ID.

BY TRAIN
Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan or Flatbush in Brooklyn to Stony Brook. The train stop in Stony Brook is at the border of the campus and bus service to the central campus is provided. Some trains require changing at Jamaica Station and some at Huntington Station. Here is the schedule for Stony Brook.

BY CAR
Long Island Expressway (east from New York City - Midtown Tunnel) to exit 62. Take Nicolls Road north towards Stony Brook nine miles. You will pass Suffolk Community College, Route 25 (Jericho Tpke.), and Route 347 (Nesconset Highway). After Route 347 (the second major intersection), pass two traffic lights. The second light is the 1ST (south) entrance to the Stony Brook campus and the University Hospital. Pass this entrance. Go to second (main) campus entrance. On the right is the second entrance road to the Hospital. On the left is a large sign stating "Stony Brook". MAKE THIS LEFT. Go straight a short distance. You will now see in front of you the Administration building of the university and a parking garage to the left of that. Park in the garage and walk around the Fine Arts Loop to the Staller Center.
