RICHARD LESLIE, Visiting Assistant Professor, Ph.D. at City University of New York Richard
Leslie’s recent research and curatorial efforts concentrate on the
intersections of art criticism and sociology, on the writing of global
histories outside the networks of commercial galleries, and on the
effect of technology and science on contemporary art and theory. He has
degrees in philosophy, art theory, criticism, and art history. He has
taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Rutgers, City
College, and the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, as well as at
Stony Brook. His publications include books on Picasso, Surrealism, and
pop art, as well as reviews for the New Art Examiner and
others. As an instructor of our undergraduate introductory survey
courses with teaching assistants, he provides basic teacher training
for graduate students. His approach is one that considers Western and
non-Western objects within the context of larger cultural traditions
and social and religious institutions. |
