MARIANNE WEIL, Visiting Artist, M.F.A. School of Visual Arts Trained by artisans in the village where Michelangelo quarried and carved marble, Marianne learned the ancient tradition of carving stone and casting bronze over 25 years ago in Pietrasanta, Italy. Her sculptures are created directly in wax and cast in bronze using the 'lost wax' process. Unlike most sculptors who cast their works in editions, Weil casts each piece uniquely from the original wax-and-mixed media sculpture, "chasing" finishing and patinating the work in her studio. |
